Understanding the characteristics of a good data scientist helps write a job description and then evaluate job candidates. According to Jonathan Hassell, the following are the 4 qualities to look for in a data scientist:
1. Understands Statistics and Laws of Large Numbers
2. Is Inquisitive
3. Is Familiar With Database Design and Implementation
4. Has Baseline Proficiency in a Scripting Language
