According to Dan Ring, at TechTarget, "Microsoft Teams and Workplace by Facebook are facing off against rivals such as HipChat and Slack in a high-stakes competition for market share in group-chat applications. Group-chat software is set to become increasingly important in HR this year and among IT teams."
HipChat (hipchat.com) by Atlassian Corporation Plc (NASDAQ: TEAM) is team collaboration and productivity software. HipChat provides unlimited chat rooms. Users can create rooms for projects, teams, clients, or the "lunchtime basketball league". Every room is searchable by keyword. HipChat synchronizes across desktop, mobile, and web apps. It has easy screen sharing and secure guest access.
Slack (slack.com) lets you organize your team conversations in open channels. For sensitive information you can create private channels and invite a few team members. Other feature of Slack include direct messages to another person or to a small group of people for more focused conversations. Making one-on-one or group video or phone calls from within Slack. Drag, drop, and file sharing.
