What is virtualization?

by Daniel J. Power
Editor, DSSResources.com

Actual and virtual are antonyms. An actual disk drive is a physical drive while a virtual drive only appears and performs like a physical disk drive. Virtualization refers to the creating a virtual version of something, including virtual computer hardware platforms, storage devices, and computer network resources.
