Survey.com and Yevich, Lawson and Associates report that IBM leads in business intelligence and Data Warehousing from IBM - Business Intelligence solutions, http://www.ibm.com/solutions/businessintelligence/ December 2000 -- IBM continues to overshadow Oracle and NCR in the business intelligence marketplace, recent technology analyst reports say. Survey.com's report -- "Business Intelligence & Data Warehousing: Competitive Analysis Report 2000" -- says IBM continued its No. 1 ranking in business intelligence and data warehousing, posting four times the revenue of Oracle, which ranked fourth, and almost six times the revenue of NCR, which ranked seventh. According to Yevich, Lawson and Associates' October 2000 report -- "DB2 Universal Database and Total Cost of Ownership" -- most of the largest customer data warehousing implementations are using IBM's DB2 database. The report also says it is rare to find a real terabyte plus Oracle database in production. Large data warehouses allow businesses to collect data from all areas of their operations. Data mining tools, like DB2 Intelligent Miner for Data, allow companies to find clusters of related material within their data that can be used to make better business decisions. As central data warehouses become prevalent in the business community and data growth escalates because of e-business, a database's scalability becomes a major factor. IBM leads the industry in providing large, scalable databases, and embeds data warehousing and OLAP capabilities into DB2 Universal Database at no additional cost. Recognizing the need for highly scalable databases that could handle the explosion of data brought on by e-business, IBM built its first Teraplex Integration Center in 1996. The centers, one designated for each IBM platform, allows customers to stress test the scalability of business intelligence systems.
