CAP integrates groupware concepts into Business Intelligence applications
Darmstadt (Germany)/Florham Park N.J., September 25, 2000 - MIS AG (MIX.FSE), a global provider of business intelligence solutions, today announced the release of its new Collaborative Analytical Processing (CAP) architecture and the accompanying technologies. CAP supports a “knowledge marketplace” in which the analytical information workflow becomes multidirectional.
The CAP approach leverages the power of MIS Decisionware, leading business intelligence software for budgeting, reporting and analysis, with groupware technologies. The CAP approach addresses the necessity for central departments to define and control business intelligence processes and structures while maintaining full flexibility for individual business units and departments.
“It's important for analytical environments, regardless if sales, finance or manufacturing, to provide analyses that are as close to real time as possible while promoting multidirectional knowledge sharing throughout the enterprise,” said Stefan Sexl, managing director at MIS. “CAP decentralizes the analysis, budgeting and reporting processes. This makes publishing critical information across the enterprise, the supply chain and to the customers possible. It is the first business intelligence solution that uses a collaborative approach to satisfy the requirements of both headquarters and local business units or individual departments.”
“With its new Collaborative Analytical Processing model and its technologies, MIS AG has delivered a software mechanism that will enable the entire enterprise to analyze and act in concert, paving the way for a transition from traditional business to e-business competitiveness,” said Bob Moran, vice president of decision support research at Aberdeen Group.
CAP features analytical, content and process services integrated into a framework for planning, forecasting, consolidation, reporting and business analysis applications. Analytical services contain the models and methods used for analysis by a business, as well as the analytical definitions. Content services is the “searchable” information contained in unstructured data - typically document or Web-based – which is made accessible through indexing. Process services represent workflow and data logistics, i.e. cleaning data, distributing reports and the supporting processes. CAP is powered by MIS Decisionware which directly interfaces all standard relational databases as well as existing data warehouse architectures and data marts, like SAP BW, Microsoft SQL, Oracle Express, Hyperion Essbase and others. Four prepackaged applications (“CAPplications”) based on the CAP architecture are available. MIS PackageDesigner is a wizard-driven solution for budgeting and reporting in decentralized environments. MIS Zeus, a consolidation engine, facilitates both legal and management consolidation. MIS DeltaMiner is an interactive cockpit for performance measurement. MIS onVision serves as a universal front-end that is capable of satisfying the increasing demand for personalized information delivery systems. All four applications leverage the functionalities that make it possible to share information in real time while integrating structured and unstructured content.
“Continuous analysis of one's own business and the possibility to share information throughout the enterprise as soon as it is created are crucial success factors,” said Christophe Peron, director of U.S. marketing at MIS. “Powered by MIS Decisionware, CAP provides businesses with the online tools they need to keep up with the rapid changes that happen within the e-business world.”
