Information Builders, EDS, and Pennsylvania State Police Launch Crime-Reporting Web Site
WebFOCUS Technology Provides Instant Access to Detailed, Real-Time Crime Stats New York, NY April 5, 2001 Information Builders, the leader in Web Business Intelligence; EDS, a leading global services company; and the Pennsylvania State Police today announced the launch of the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) System Web site. This site, ucr.psp.state.pa.us, is designed to help local police fight crime more effectively while giving citizens easy and immediate access to crime statistics for towns, counties, regions, college campuses, and the state as a whole.
Prior to the launch of the site, for which EDS was the primary contractor, this crime data remained tied up in a dense report that was published only once a year. This new site, powered by Information Builders' WebFOCUS technology, allows crime-fighters and the public to view and analyze fresh, month-by-month data. The reporting capabilities of the UCR site allow its users to spot trends by tracking crime over time. Additionally, users can view the annual "Crime in PA" report, run standard formatted reports for a selected time frame, and even build their own query using UCR data.
"This breakthrough in law-enforcement reporting now gives police departments and the public the opportunity to use the Web to check crime in their own neighborhoods," said Gerald D. Cohen, president and CEO, Information Builders. "Users now have the option to select among more than 30 offenses, generate Web reports, and analyze statistics in a variety of categories, all of which provide a whole new meaning to the term 'public safety.'"
"By using the Information Builders WebFOCUS tool in the new Pennsylvania Uniform Crime Reporting System, we can provide real-time crime data to police departments and the general public," said State Police Lt. Wes Thurston, project manager for the Web system. "This enables law enforcement agencies to make informed decisions about how and when to allocate resources."
The Uniform Crime Reporting System Web site, hailed by FBI officials as the first of its kind in the country, is the latest addition to Information Builders' i-government suite of prepackaged reporting and transaction-based Web applications specifically developed for state, regional, and local government agencies. These applications accelerate the process of bringing Internet productivity to the public sector.
Information Builders' i-government suite is being sold nationwide via the company's direct sales force. For more information, visit www.i-govsuite.com.
