US Army Enlists Brio Software to Meet its Recruiting Goals

Brio Provides US Army Recruiting Command Leaders with Accurate and
Immediate Access to Critical Performance Information

SANTA CLARA, Calif., December 17, 2001 -- Brio
Software (Nasdaq: BRIO), a leading provider of next-generation business
intelligence tools and applications that help Global 3000 companies and
numerous government agencies worldwide achieve breakthrough business performance,
today announced that the US Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) has selected
Brio's Performance Suite™ to help streamline its current performance
tracking procedures. With more than 7,458 recruiters located in 1,655 offices
nationwide and overseas, the USAREC is responsible for providing the command,
control and staff support needed to meet the Army's requirements of 104,000
      new soldiers annually.

"At a time when enlisting quality soldiers is of utmost importance, we are
honored that the USAREC has chosen Brio's solutions to assist with its recruiting
needs," stated Don Beck, executive vice president worldwide sales, Brio
Software. "The proven ease-of-use and deployment of Brio's Performance Suite
enables the USAREC to tap into existing data and spot recruiting trends
in a timely manner that greatly improves the decision-making and reporting
process throughout every critical point in the organization."

Before implementing Brio's tools and applications, leadership within the
USAREC was unaware of how its subordinate organizations were performing
relative to established goals, objectives and metrics. Performance report
generation within the agency was time-consuming and tedious, and often-resulted
in reports being made redundant due to inaccurate data and lack of timely
information. With the deployment of the Brio Performance Suite, the USAREC
now has the ability to accurately track the performance of 7,458 recruiters
and their respective leadership chains, in real-time. Additionally, the
command leadership plans on creating digital personalized dashboards that
will deliver relevant information and analysis capabilities so that users
can track the performance of subordinate units within the organization.
The USAREC selected Brio to become its business intelligence standard over
      its incumbent provider, Cognos.

Numerous other U.S. government defense agencies are already realizing the
benefits of their Brio implementations including the U.S. Army Chief of
Naval Operation, Defense Intelligence Agency, Defense CEETA, Office of the
Secretary of Defense, Defense Finance Accounting Service, U.S. Navy Surface
Warfare Center, NAVAIR, Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Office of Naval Research,
Office of Naval Intelligence, U.S. Navy Medical Command, USAF Air Mobility
Command, USAF Material Command, USAF Special Operations Command, USAF Medical
      and the National Security Agency.

The USAREC headquarters, located at Fort Knox, Kentucky, provides the
command, control, and staff support to the recruiting force. More than
600 military and civilian personnel work in the staff activities of personnel,
administration, logistics, budget, and information management, plus several
specialized functions such as advertising, market research and analysis,
and recruiting operations. The staff includes members of the Army Medical
Department (AMEDD) and the Army Reserve who support recruiting officers
and enlisted soldiers for their respective missions.
