Broward County Florida School District Turns to Brio to Improve Classroom Performance

Public School System Uses Business Intelligence Software to Help Improve Organizational Performance and Reduce Student Dropout Rate

SANTA CLARA, Calif., December 18, 2001 -- Brio Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: BRIO), a leading provider of next-generation business intelligence tools and applications that help global 3000 companies achieve breakthrough business performance, today announced that the Broward County Florida School District has deployed Brio to track and monitor data on more than 260,000 students regarding attendance, test scores and overall classroom performance.

Broward County leverages Brio's powerful tools and applications to aggregate information from multiple data sources across the entire school district, providing school officials with the ability to quickly analyze large volumes of student records and test scores to determine which students may be in danger of failing or dropping out. This level of analysis provides an early warning so that preventative measures can be taken quickly to improve student performance. Brio also enables Broward County to send complete performance reports of all incoming students and their test scores to the individual schools before each new year, as well as provide easy access for teachers in need of background data on transferring students. Teachers can also quickly determine the right curriculum required for each incoming student.

"Before Brio, our faculty and staff were consumed by lengthy and cumbersome manual processes to access and extract even the simplest information on individual students," stated Dr. Phyllis Chasser, senior data warehouse analyst, Broward County Schools. "After the deployment of Brio, teachers were able to spend less time searching for data, and more time analyzing information and sharing effective teaching and problem solving strategies to improve classroom success. We now proactively work at reducing the number of students dropping out across the entire district by leveraging the insight we receive through Brio reports."

The fifth largest school district in the United States, Broward County Public Schools has 262,000 K-12 students, 100,000 adult education students, 259 schools and 26,000 employees. More than 2000 district employees across the entire district turn to Brio to gain visibility into student records, staff and personnel data as well as individual teaching methods - leading to dramatic improvements in overall organizational performance.

"Brio's goal is to increase the level of performance of any organization by helping it to gain better insight into the key drivers of its success," stated Don Beck, executive vice president of worldwide sales, Brio Software. "We're delighted with the results achieved by Broward County School District, and believe this deployment underscores the value of business intelligence in improving the performance of a very important type of organization: educational institutions."

Broward County School District is also a pioneer participant in Brio Software's Customer Video Library, a program developed to showcase key customers using and benefiting from Brio's business intelligence tools and applications.
