BP Expands Existing Applix Relationship with Additional Million-Dollar Contract

BP Rolls Out Applix iPlanning to its Global Exploration and Production Operation

March 13, 2001

Westboro, MA, March 13, 2001 - Applix, Inc. (NASDAQ:APLX), a global provider of customer analytics and business planning software, announced today that it has secured an additional contract with BP to implement Applix iPlanning analytics and business forecasting solutions. Valued at more than one million U.S. dollars, the contract expands the existing relationship with BP to a global level.

The current project validates the success of BP Amoco's existing Applix iPlanning deployment for BP's U.S. "Deep Water" exploration project, announced on November 8, 2000. Leveraging Applix iPlanning's unparalleled capabilities to conduct real-time financial calculations of massive volumes of data, the new project expands Applix iPlanning's use to BP's entire upstream business unit across 300 users globally.

Key to BP's selection of Applix iPlanning for its customer analytics and business planning requirements is Applix iPlanning's ability to conduct complex calculations "on the fly" and perform "what if" analyses of multiple business scenarios.
