Simulation Sciences Inc. Awarded Contract With Chevron For Real Time Optimization
BREA, Calif., March 8 -- Simulation Sciences Inc. (SIMSCI), a
worldwide leader of advanced process control, optimization and simulation
solutions to the global process industries, today announced that it has been
awarded two real-time optimization projects with Chevron at one of its
refineries. Chevron will utilize ROMeo, SIMSCI's Windows NT based software
for on-line optimization, to directly replace their existing on-line, closed
loop system on two of the processing units at its El Segundo Refinery.
Chevron based its selection of ROMeo on four categories: product features
and architecture; product supportability and implementation; technology
supplier capability; and maintenance and implementation cost factors.
"This project award solidifies SIMSCI's position as a global optimization
leader," said Brian Ahern, president of SIMSCI. "ROMeo has quickly become the
real time optimization technology of choice, with many on-line systems
commissioned and under implementation within some of the largest refining and
petrochemical companies in the world."
Bob Cuneo, technical manager at the Chevron El Segundo Refinery, said, "We
believe ROMeo's optimization capabilities, architecture and end-user
friendliness will provide maximum and sustainable benefits for Chevron. This
product represents a real technological advancement in real-time optimization
technology."

    About ROMeo
ROMeo, SIMSCI's Rigorous On-line Modeling with Equation Based Optimization
software is designed to enable plant engineers and management to model process
units and optimize operations on a plant-wide basis. The system uses a
combination of real-time plant data and current economic objectives to
precisely replicate plant operations. Based on a rigorous model of the
operating facility, the system calculates optimal process set points for the
plant's control system. It also helps determine the location and cause of
operating constraints and problems. Unlike older optimization technology,
ROMeo uses one model for process simulation, data reconciliation and
optimization. This one model concept and state-of-the-art graphical
plug-and-play environment minimizes build, implementation and maintenance
costs.
