UBC Commerce Teams up with Cognos® to Sharpen Competitive Edge for Students

- New Partnership with Ottawa-based Cognos delivers real-world resources to UBC Commerce's MBA program -

VANCOUVER, BC, June 14, 2001—A new partnership between UBC Commerce and Cognos®, (Nasdaq: COGN; TSE: CSN), the world's largest and most successful business intelligence company, is bringing leading-edge business information tools to the classroom and enhancing real-world training capabilities.

Working closely with Cognos technical support, the Management Information Division at UBC Commerce will now provide students with direct access to and training with the Cognos Business Intelligence solution.

Cognos is used by organizations worldwide to perform sophisticated analysis on business data. Each year, 160 students will investigate how to extract and analyze business data and how to use this to create business improvement strategies using Cognos' business intelligence. The program is already in use in UBC Commerce curriculum.

Cognos' unique drill-down capabilities allow companies to analyze business data and extract insights to help business processes, improve customer acquisition and retention, strengthen the supply chain, and manage corporate key performance indicators.
