-- JMP® wins data analysis; Enterprise Miner™, StatView® finalists in other categories --

CARY, N.C. (July 16, 2001) – SAS, the market leader in business intelligence and decision support, today announced that the readers of Scientific Computing & Instrumentation (SC&I) magazine selected JMP software No. 1 in data analysis in the magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards. JMP also was a finalist in the statistical software category. For the second consecutive year, SAS’ Enterprise Miner software earned a finalist award in the neural networks/AI category, while the company’s StatView software earned its third consecutive finalist award for presentation graphics. These software solutions help organizations discover hidden information within the mountains of data collected on organizational process, and customer or supplier relationships.

“We were excited to learn that SC&I readers selected JMP software as their software of choice for data analysis. This ranking underscores our industry leadership in the statistical and analytic arena which is key to quality,” said John Sall, executive vice president of SAS. “By listening to our customers, we have continued to strive for excellence in the functionality and reliability of JMP software. Progressive product enhancements allowed for optimal performance and increased user satisfaction.”

“SAS has proven year after year to be a top contender and leader in software analytics among our readers,” said Matt Lally, publisher of SC&I. “We’re proud to present these awards.”

“Users consistently have recognized a number of SAS products as being critical to gaining a competitive edge,” said Jim Davis, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at SAS. “Organizations have islands of data – financial data, human resources data, manufacturing data, you name it. Our analytical software solutions give you much more power than simply reporting on historical information; it is called the power to predict. Enterprise Miner, JMP and StatView help transform data into useful information that can be leveraged throughout an organization’s decision making process. There’s no better way to turn data into a competitive advantage.”

SC&I readers were invited to vote by open ballot for their favorite technical software, computer hardware and instrumentation products. Criteria for selection products included quality, reliability, ease of use, technical support and value to price. This year’s winners are featured in the July 2001 issue of SC&I.
