Cray Selects Servigistics for Service Parts Planning

Leading supercomputer company chooses Servigistics to manage field service parts, improve customer satisfaction

New Orleans, LA; INTERLOG 2001, Booth 6; June 19, 2001 -- Servigistics, Inc., a leading provider of service supply chain solutions, today announced that Cray Inc., the global market leader in high-end supercomputers, has selected Servigistics’ parts planning and forecasting software to help plan and manage field service parts. Cray will use Servigistics PartsPlan to forecast service parts for new and existing product lines. Cray will also use PartsPlan to plan and manage service parts inventory for NEC’s vector supercomputer products, which it will be exclusively selling and servicing throughout North America. Cray expects PartsPlan to increase service levels and improve customer satisfaction throughout the world.

Cray’s customers include many of the world’s leading automotive, aerospace, petroleum, and chemical/pharmaceutical companies. In addition, weather forecasting and global climate research centers, major academic research centers, and government agencies in the U.S. and abroad also use Cray supercomputers. Although the majority of Cray’s customers are located in the U.S., the company needs to stock parts for customers around the world. "Maintaining a well balanced inventory of parts is not only essential for keeping our customers happy but also necessary for minimizing inventory expense," commented Gerald Loe, vice president of worldwide service at Cray. "In addition to optimizing field inventory, we are also very interested in tracking the return of repairable modules and eliminating unnecessary repair costs wherever possible," he added.

Before selecting Servigistics, Cray carefully evaluated PartsPlan to ensure that it met all of their functional requirements. "We have the perfect solution for handling Cray’s unique needs. Completely Web-based, PartsPlan is designed to optimize field inventory and track the reverse flow of repairable parts," commented Mike Landry, president and CEO of Servigistics. "Also, we were able to clearly demonstrate that we could deliver a robust system that met all of their criteria," concluded Landry.

"We expect implementation, which involves integration with an existing inventory system, to be completed quickly, with the solution being made available to our planners in September," commented Roger Dagitz, director of central service operations at Cray. "Future efforts will involve integrating PartsPlan with a new CRM/ERP system when it becomes available," he added.
