BusinessGenetics Contracted by National Forest Service to Model Regulations DENVER--Oct. 11, 2001--Cedric Tyler, CEO of Englewood-based BusinessGenetics, today announced a contract for service by National Forest Service for BusinessGenetics to model several governmental laws and regulations. Federal laws and internal rules specify what the Forest Service must do, but rarely provide enough information for a forest manager or other government employee to know how to do what is required. In this engagement, BusinessGenetics will use its patent-pending modeling language xBML (eXtended Business Modeling Language) to: 1. Model laws and rules, resulting in a multi-dimensional model defining the "to-be" state. 2. Model existing processes, resulting in a multi-dimensional model defining the "as-is" state. 3. Perform gap analysis between corresponding dimensions of the two models, providing information needed for organizational transformation. 4. Perform costing studies on both models. xBML -- a recently launched business modeling language by BusinessGenetics -- is used for business planning, business understanding, business simplification and improvement, regulatory compliance, internal communication improvement, and software package selection. "Through the findings from BusinessGenetics’ research and analyses, the Forest Service will be in a better position to respond and implement all laws and regulations affecting this organization," said Thomas Hoekstra, director, Inventory and Monitoring Institute –- USDA Forest Service. xBML is a formal language, meaning that it is precise and unambiguous, so that models developed in xBML can be automatically transformed into specifications and designs for computer programs and databases. This precision results in models that can be used not only for understanding and communication, but also for developing surgically precise interventions and change. xBML can be used for the explicit purpose of understanding and changing key business processes and showing their connectivity to corporate strategy and corporate resources. Second, it can be used in a less explicit fashion in other types of consulting engagements as a tool for understanding the business and as an unambiguous documentation and communication tool. Finally, it can also be used as a "front end" language for UML (Unified Modeling Language) and XML (eXtensible Markup Language). The formal precision of xBML allows easy machine translation into these two important representations, resulting in quicker and more accurate development of requirements and specifications for computer systems.
