Open Text's Records Management Solutions First to Receive Key U.S. Federal Security Certification

Security Critical With Post-9/11 Need for Inter-Agency Collaboration "Classified Records" Standard Part of U.S. Department of Defense 5015.2 Certification

CHICAGO, IL, Dec. 12, 2002 -- Open Text(TM) Corporation (Nasdaq:OTEX) (TSX:OTC), provider of Livelink(R), the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, said today it is the first to receive a tough new security certification for its records management solutions. Open Text met the security requirements as part of its U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) 5015.2 certification, which is required for all records management solutions used by the Department of Defense and other U.S. Federal agencies.

The new Management of Classified Records certification (DoD 5015.2 Chapter 4), created in June, has become important to ensure the security of official records, as the demand to share information among Federal agencies grows in the post 9/11 world. By meeting the security standards, Open Text's records management solutions become eligible for government contracts with very high security requirements. Both of Open Text's records management solutions, Livelink Records Management(TM) and iRIMS(TM), received the Classified Records certification, along with the mandatory DoD 5015.2 certification.

Open Text's solutions are the first offerings in the industry with this level of certification that come integrated with end-to-end knowledge management and content management capabilities. Open Text's records management solutions offer robust, Web-based features to manage both electronic and physical records through a consolidated interface. Customers can easily deploy records management capabilities, while avoiding the complications of competing client-server solutions.

"The new Department of Defense certification for electronic records management, which incorporates the Management of Classified Records, involves a rigorous testing process to ensure organizations using the certified records management offerings can adequately control the security of records. The country's security and safety could depend on the integrity of its official records," says Richard Medina, Principal Analyst at Doculabs, Inc., (www.doculabs.com), an independent research and consulting firm. "Truly integrated records management, like the capability provided by Open Text's Livelink Records Management, is imperative for any document-intensive organization, and the ability to apply records management retention and disposition schedules on collaborative objects, like the discussions and meetings created in Livelink, is extremely beneficial. A Web-based solution, certified by the Department of Defense, which provides a consolidated view of all records, is the way of the future."

"Government agencies have made it a priority to improve information sharing and reduce paperwork. At the same time, more information must be managed as official records, requiring secure processes for maintaining both electronic content and physical documents," said Anik Ganguly, Executive Vice President of Products at Open Text. "With the Classified Records certification, our Government Solutions group can offer customers a complete solution for securely managing critical records, allowing them to reduce risk, minimize complexity and improve efficiency. They also benefit from the tight integration of records management with the knowledge and content management capabilities of Livelink."
