IDELIX Awarded GeoConnections Contract February 18, 2002 - Vancouver, BC - IDELIX Software Inc., makers of the visualization technology known as Pliable Display Technology (PDT), today announced they have entered a partnership to integrate PDT within an Internet Client. This partnership is through the GeoInnovations program of GeoConnections, a web-based initiative led by Natural Resources Canada, to develop the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI). PDT will address the challenge of viewing high-density online geospatial data sets on a limited size screen display. What separates PDT from other viewing technologies is that detail can be viewed within these images without having to zoom in and lose part of the image context. As a PDT lens moves across the display screen, it works as a geometric transform, giving the visual impression that the display surface is "pliable" or elastic. Desired levels of magnification and detail appear within the focal region of the lens, while the lens shoulder provides continuous visual connection to the base image. The result is detail-in-context viewing with no information being hidden from view. "The PDT Internet Client will facilitate web access to CGDI data in an intuitive new way that is a significant step beyond what existing GIS data presentation products can do," says Dr. David Baar, CEO of IDELIX. "The PDT Internet Client is built around IDELIX's powerful Pliable Display Technology Applications Programming Interface, which is a very flexible toolkit that provides application vendors with the means to embed PDT functionality into their applications. IDELIX is very pleased to be working with GeoConnections to integrate PDT and provide Canadians with a powerful tool for viewing and analyzing geographic information on the web." "GeoConnections is committed to encouraging Canadian companies to develop new, innovative commercial products and services as part of building the CGDI," said Jeff Labonte, GeoConnections Director. "This helps give national firms enhanced opportunities in the expanding worldwide geomatics market and fosters the growth of jobs in the knowledge-based economy." Product completion date is scheduled for summer of 2002. For more information on the integration of the Pliable Display Technology Software Development Kit, visit www.idelix.com .
