Naval Air Depot Jacksonville Now Fully Operational on New Repair & Overhaul Software from Western Data Systems

CALABASAS, Calif.--Jan. 30, 2002--Western Data Systems (WDS) announced today that the Naval Air Depot Jacksonville (NADEP JAX) is now fully operational on the WDS CompassENTERPRISE(R) repair and overhaul software system. On November 28, 2001, NADEP JAX officially marked the cutover to the new system and shut down its 30-year-old legacy Workload Control System.
Signifying the importance of the new system, the November ceremony was attended by Mr. Robert Mason, Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Maintenance, Policy, Programs, and Resources; Ms. Laura Faught, Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Logistics Systems Management; Admiral Stephen Heilman, Assistant Commander for Aviation Depots; Captain Thomas Cahill, Joint Program Manager, Department of Defense Manufacturing Resource Planning Program; and Captain Christopher Roum, NADEP JAX Commanding Officer.
NADEP JAX is among the largest military depots in the world, with 3,600 civilian employees working in 52 buildings across 102 acres. As the largest industrial employer in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, the depot supports the U.S. Navy fleet by performing repair and overhaul services on most types of naval aircraft, including the F/A-18 Hornet, F-14 Tomcat, EA-6B Prowler, SH-60 Seahawk, and P-3 Orion, as well as related engines and nearly 50,000 sub-system, avionics, and component items.
Designated as the Initial Operating Site (IOS) for the Department of Defense (DoD) Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRPII) program, NADEP JAX is the first major United States military depot to deploy an off-the-shelf software package of this scale and nature throughout its operations. The same WDS repair and overhaul software system is also being deployed at Naval Air Depots in Cherry Point, North Carolina and San Diego, California, and at Marine Corps Logistics Bases in Albany, Georgia and Barstow, California. It is also in use within the United States military at the U.S. Navy Ship Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA) NRMF base in Ingleside, Texas and the U.S. Air Force Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center (AMARC) at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, Arizona.
Anton Rodde, Western Data Systems President and CEO stated: "We are proud to be a partner with the United States Department of Defense on this important program. By improving the productivity and responsiveness of the people who keep our nation's military equipment in top working order, this program is helping to ensure our national security while keeping the cost of that effort as low as practical."
