LEADING DATA MINING AND ANALYTIC SOFTWARE COMPANIES WORK WITH BUSINESS OBJECTS TO POWER ENTERPRISE ANALYTIC APPLICATIONS

SAN JOSE, Calif. – July 8, 2002 – Business Objects (Nasdaq: BOBJ), the world’s leading provider of business intelligence solutions, today announced support from leading data mining and analytic software companies for BusinessObjects™ Application Foundation 3.0. Announced today, Application Foundation 3.0 is the newest version of the company’s analytic framework for quickly and easily delivering integrated enterprise analytic applications.

Business Objects has worked with KXEN, THINKANALYTICS, and IBM to provide customers with a range of new options for incorporating predictive analysis capabilities into enterprise analytic applications. These applications give users better insight into data and help them anticipate the results of targeted business decisions.

KXEN

Business Objects has embedded predictive analysis technology from KXEN deep into Application Foundation 3.0. KXEN provides powerful predictive and descriptive modeling technology that enables companies to draw critical information from corporate data stores and then use that information for daily decision making. Unlike traditional data mining solutions that require the user to have high-level technical knowledge, KXEN software and applications based on it enable companies to easily process and model data and make quick, informed business decisions.

Applications based on predictive analysis enable users to easily collect the key pieces of information from the large stores of corporate data and use this information to forecast, model, and analyze complex relationships in the data. This gives business managers a realistic view of their customers, products, and supply chain, and enables them to test and measure the impact of their business decisions prior to implementation.

"At KXEN we are committed to helping users quickly identify patterns. This enables them to more accurately profile and predict their own customer behaviors, allowing them to use this insight to make informed business decisions," said Roger Haddad, CEO of KXEN. "We’re pleased Business Objects has integrated our technology into the predictive analysis engine in Application Foundation and look forward to continuing our relationship."

THINKANALYTICS

Business Objects is partnering with THINKANALYTICS, a leading real-time data mining platform and business analytics company, to provide open integration with leading statistics and data mining tools. The THINKANALYTICS data mining platform integrates predictive analytics into business applications and operational processes, combining external techniques and specialist algorithms with traditional data mining techniques.

Application Foundation 3.0 can connect to leading statistical tools to take advantage of their algorithms and analytic processing capabilities. This enables companies to deploy applications that seamlessly incorporate models and predictions from one or multiple statistics sources, thus providing greater automation and power to their applications and increasing the return on the investment in their existing technology environment.

"Many companies have a pocket of statistics tools somewhere in the organization, but historically this has been used by a chosen few employees. Our real-time, scalable data mining platform helps companies get statistics and data mining out of the back room and into the light of day by integrating it with all areas of the enterprise, including business intelligence, CRM, ERP, and supply chain applications," said Eddie Young, CEO of THINKANALYTICS. "We are pleased to work with Business Objects to provide an open solution that enables companies to integrate a variety of statistical and data mining techniques into their enterprise analytic applications."

IBM

Business Objects worked with IBM to test the integration of Application Foundation with external data mining tools. IBM delivers powerful data mining and scoring tools to enable companies to gain the insights that can make a difference to the bottom line. IBM DB2 Intelligent Miner for Data enables customers to identify and extract high-value business intelligence from enterprise data, while IBM DB2 Intelligent Miner Scoring enables users to easily deploy mining in real-time applications.

"IBM is pleased to work with Business Objects to provide customers DB2 business intelligence software running with Application Foundation to help them gain insight from their data," said Lauren Flaherty, vice president of marketing, IBM Data Management Solutions. "Users, regardless of their technical or mathematical competency, will now be able to spot trends in business information across many areas in real-time so they can more quickly make decisions to gain a competitive advantage."
