Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions and the City of Abbotsford Partner to Enhance Internet-based City ServicesGeoMedia WebMap helps improve communication and data sharing for employees, customers, and citizens HUNTSVILLE, Ala., April 17, 2002 - The City of Abbotsford, British Columbia, is taking steps to substantially enhance city services on the Internet thanks to a partnership with Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions. Using Intergraph's GeoMedia(R) WebMap technology, the City has created an immense database of geographic information that is available to City of Abbotsford citizens and customers seven days a week, 24 hours a day over the Internet. The City's Mayor, George Ferguson, and Jim Wickson, vice president of Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions for North America, announced the partnership at a recent meeting with City of Abbotsford officials. Mayor Ferguson stated, "The Abbotsford e-government strategy will alter the way we deliver city services in the future. Our e-government goals are clear: create a user-friendly, interactive Web site; use leading-edge service, business, and technology applications; provide enhanced city services for citizens and customers; and position Abbotsford as an attractive, high-quality place to live and do business. Clearly, our partnership with Intergraph and the implementation of their Web mapping technology will help us achieve these goals." "We applaud the City of Abbotsford for their vision and commitment to improving customer service and the quality of life for citizens," said Jim Wickson, vice president of Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions for North America. "Web mapping technology such as GeoMedia WebMap is modernizing methods for city government to communicate and share critical data with employees, customers, and citizens. We look forward to continuing this partnership in support of the City's e-government initiative." Easy-to-use Web site facilitates information access City staff worked closely with Intergraph to customize an attractive, easy-to-use mapping interface for the City's Web site. Using a Web browser, customers can read or download mapping information about specific properties or areas of the city. Features important to the development of industry, such as land use and zoning, city utility services, contours, and aerial photos, will also be available. Local citizens can benefit from the new Web site with access to basic parcel information such as street addresses, plan numbers, and zoning. They will also be able to search for the location of parks, schools, and facilities. To access areas of the City's Web site containing personal or user-specific information, such as homeowners or tax information, a citizen must be registered with the City of Abbotsford. "The development of our Web mapping product was approached with the end user in mind," said Vic Morcom, manager of Abbotsford Information Services. "Initial feedback from industry focus groups indicates that electronic access to key city information will save our customers time and money, and reduce the demands on our staff. We foresee customer service and staff productivity substantially improving as a result." Abbotsford's online services can be viewed at www.city.abbotsford.bc.ca. City of Abbotsford The City of Abbotsford, situated in one of the most productive agricultural areas in Canada, serves as a regional hub for the thriving Fraser Valley population.
