REXAM BEVERAGE CAN AMERICAS DEPLOYS CPM SOFTWARE FROM COMSHARE®

Ann Arbor, Michigan, June 11, 2002 -- Comshare, Incorporated (NASDAQ: CSRE) announced today that Rexam Beverage Can Americas (Rexam BCA), is implementing a corporate performance management (CPM) system using Comshare MPC™. The Comshare application will help drive a “Balanced Scorecard” view of the company. Rexam BCA is one of six sectors of Rexam PLC (NASDAQ: REXMY), a $5 billion global consumer packaging company. Rexam PLC is the fourth largest consumer packaging company and the number one beverage can maker in the world.

Using Comshare MPC, Rexam BCA will set top-down targets from the corporate division’s standpoint, then approximately 100 users at each of the company’s 17 plants will use the application to create a budget from the bottom up, based on the company’s business drivers. Rexam BCA will measure volume, price, customer and product mix, label, business, and gains and losses.

Rexam BCA Looks to Comshare to Save Labor Costs
Rexam BCA has consistently sought to improve efficiencies, and was using linked spreadsheets first developed over a decade ago to do the budgeting. But the spreadsheet method of budgeting required up to 500 man-hours at each plant to finalize.

“The biggest benefit of the Comshare MPC system to Rexam BCA is the single source of information it gives us to focus our resources on what matters,” says Claude Marbach, Director of Operations Analysis, Rexam BCA, “ultimately helping us improve productivity and quality while managing cost more efficiently.” Comshare MPC’s budgeting and management reporting and analysis functionality is being deployed to users via the web, connecting Rexam BCA’s plants across the United States with corporate headquarters in Chicago. Using the “Balanced Scorecard” view, Rexam BCA senior management will be able to view metrics important to running the company, including quarterly forecasting and strategic planning capabilities that use the application’s built-in forecasting and version control functionality.

“The Comshare MPC application gives plant managers a robust tool to help them analyze their operations and make adjustments to their plans going forward,” says Ron Dieken, Manager of Accounting and project lead. “Comshare MPC is that flexible. It is an enabling tool.”

Comshare Wins Due to Product Design, Functionality and Its People
“Adaytum, Comshare and Hyperion made the first cut,” says Dieken. “We ultimately selected Comshare for a variety of reasons including the ability to run on Oracle, our IT standard; a centralized design that gave us a single source for information; and a functionality and flexibility that our users took to right away. But what really took Comshare over the top was its people. We believed they were the best fit for Rexam Beverage Can Americas. They were very knowledgeable, listened to what we wanted and committed to delivering it,” says Dieken.
