The Data Warehousing Institute Announces the Winners of the 2002 Best Practices Awards - Seattle, WA

Real-World Implementations Recognized for Innovation and Business Impact

Seattle, WA MAY 17, 2002- The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI), the premier provider of in-depth, high quality education and training in the data warehousing and business intelligence industry, announces the winners of its 2002 Best Practices in Data Warehousing Awards competition. This competition provides thousands of practitioners with best practices they can follow as data warehousing and business intelligence continues to grow and expand.

Nominations were judged by a panel of experts, including: practitioners, consultants, industry analysts, journalists, Journal of Data Warehousing editors, Institute Fellows, and TDWI management. The winners clearly demonstrated that their data warehouse and business intelligence projects were truly innovative solutions to problems commonly faced by data warehousing practitioners and were practices that could be followed by others. The judges examined six key criteria to determine the winners in each category:

  • Impact. What is the value of the data warehouse or application to the business and end-users?
  • Relevance. Does the data warehouse or business intelligence application demonstrate a best practice that other companies can adopt?
  • Innovation. How innovative are the strategies, technologies, architectures, or processes used to design and implement the data warehouse or business intelligence environment?
  • Alignment. How closely aligned are business and IT processes? How well does the data warehouse adapt to changing business requirements and deliver long-term sustainable value?
  • Maturity. What is the scale, scope, and sophistication of the solution? How much has the solution evolved since it was first deployed?
  • Bang for the Buck. How efficient is the design and delivery given the business, technical, and organizational constraints within which the project is operating?
