UCLA Medical Center Expands CliniComp Intl.'s Clinical Information System Enterprise-WideExpansion Includes the Addition of More Than 1,000 Beds in UCLA Medical Center in Westwood and Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center SAN DIEGO, CA, Oct. 28, 2002 -- CliniComp Intl. had been awarded a multi-million dollar contract to expand its new Clinical Information System, WinCIS(TM), and its new Oracle-based Global Data Repository, GDR, enterprise-wide at UCLA Medical Center in Westwood and at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, Calif. WinCIS(TM) and the GDR will expand into all Intensive Care Units, all Medical/Surgical Units, Labor and Delivery, and other clinical areas of both facilities. WinCIS(TM) is designed to support all patient care functions for charting, managing orders, and analyzing data in real-time clinical decision support, thereby improving patient safety and reducing errors. The system integrates current patient information and displays it at the point of care, at central stations and from remote locations. According to UCLA Medical Center Chief Information Officer Dr. Michael McCoy, the principles of the Medical Center systems plan emphasize that the clinical information system must be affordable, reliable, scaleable and maintainable, and that the security and availability of the system is essential. All transactions entered into WinCIS(TM) will be replicated on servers at both medical centers, therefore guaranteeing up-to-date, non-stop server operation, with no loss of patient data. WinCIS(TM) is easily integrated with UCLA's legacy systems. Information will only need to be entered once to be available on multiple systems. CliniComp Intl.'s Clinical Information System has a proven track record at UCLA Medical Center since the CIS was first installed in a pilot program in 1994 in one of the hospital's ICU's. Full implementation will be completed in approximately 18 months.
