Otis Elevator Company Selects Extended Systems' Mobile Solutions Platform for Worldwide Pilot Initiative

Extended Systems Chalks Up World's Largest Manufacturer of Elevators, Escalators and Moving Walkways as First Post-ViaFone Acquisition Customer Win

BOISE, Idaho, Sept. 5, 2002 - Extended Systems (Nasdaq:XTND), a leading provider of mobile information management solutions for the enterprise, today announced that Otis Elevator Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, has selected Extended Systems' Mobile Solutions Platform to pilot the company's global mobilization of service technicians, an initiative known as the Otis Mobile Enablement Middleware Program.

Otis technicians maintain more than 1.2 million units worldwide. The technicians are supported by comprehensive maintenance, communications and service dispatching networks. Extended Systems' Mobile Solutions Platform provides Otis the ability to maximize these support networks by giving technicians wireless access to the service information they need, regardless of the hand-held devices they are using -- including Web-enabled phones, two-way pagers and PDAs.

"Otis is uniquely positioned to leverage mobile technology to connect our on-the-go service technicians with critical, up-to-date information," says Ron Beaver, CIO for Otis. "We selected Extended Systems' Mobile Solutions Platform because it provides us with a complete mobile solution that meets our global requirements and enables us to build applications that are independent of delivery devices, their footprints, various wireless standards, networks and carriers."

"Being selected by an innovative market leader like Otis, after an exhaustive evaluation process with specific and demanding criteria, further validates our credibility in the marketplace and ability to solve business issues with mobile solutions," said Steve Simpson, president and CEO of Extended Systems. "As the world evolves into an increasingly mobile environment, visionary companies like Otis are taking steps to ensure that their employees and customers have up-to-date information when and where they need it. By providing Otis with proven, world-class mobile technology and a steadfast commitment to service, we look forward to delivering a mobile technology foundation that is easy to deploy and can grow with the needs of Otis and its customers."
