Florida Hospital Selects Cypress to Power Information Access and Delivery* New software provides physicians with immediate access to all hospital documents * $1.6 million savings are projected over five years ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., Feb. 11, 2003 -- Florida Hospital, recently cited as one of "America's Best Hospitals*," has selected software from Cypress Corporation to enable faster and less expensive distribution of information throughout the hospital, and particularly to physicians.Cypress' leading content management and delivery software is enabling a new Internet-based electronic report delivery system, known as the Reports Inbox, which Florida Hospital's 2,085 physicians can access through a Physician Portal: http://www.floridahospitalmd.org . The new system, which provides physicians with immediate access to all hospital documents, is configured initially to handle 6 million documents a year, and it is anticipated that this will increase to 12 million-plus annually in the next three years. Cypress will save the hospital $1.6 million over five years compared with its previous system. "Over the past decade we contracted with other companies to provide our physicians with electronic report delivery, and last year we concluded it was time for a change," explained Steve Deutchman, Director, Physician Applications. "We analyzed every major report delivery system on the market, and only Cypress had all the components already built and ready to go, and it offered the most cost-effective solution. We were looking at 90 days best case to get this new system in place, and Cypress had a strong track record of implementing very quickly. We now have a solution that provides our physicians and their staff new levels of service." Cypress allows the hospital to merge reports and capture images, such as pathology slides, and forward them to referring physicians. "Using Cypress, a physician can bring a report up with the image attached to, or embedded in it, and can have a meaningful discussion with a patient about the results. We could not do that with the previous system," said Deutchman. Cypress has also enabled Florida Hospital to create documents from HL7 (Health Level Seven) transactions, such as those generated from a transcribed pathology report. And then with just one query into Cypress, the original transcription, the HL7 transactions, the resulting documents, and other documents relevant to a patient can be accessed, assembled and distributed instantly across the hospital via email, fax or printer. "We gave Cypress a tough timetable to implement in, plus some customization," concluded Deutchman. "The company met every objective we set for it, and we went live on schedule. Cypress is enabling us to meet HIPAA requirements for access to confidential patient information, and we are evaluating the software for materials management, nursing home care and insurance claims systems. Our parent organization, Adventist Health System, is also assessing the software for use in its other hospitals."
