Gartner Announces Business Intelligence Vendor Ratings for IT Buyers and Technology InvestorsSTAMFORD, Conn., Jan. 28, 2003 -- Gartner Business Intelligence Vendor Ratings deliver a whole view of vendors that provide a range of technologies in the business intelligence sector. IT buyers, technology investors and purchasing decision-makers are demanding independent intelligence on technology providers before establishing relationships with them. Gartner, Inc. (NYSE: IT and ITB) today introduces nine Vendor Ratings to Gartner clients and members of Gartner Invest. "Many enterprises are highly interested in business intelligence vendors because they are executing long-term contracts for business intelligence products and service solutions," said Betsy Burton, Gartner vice president and research director. "In an era of massive consolidation and diverse technology platforms, buyers and investors are demanding an independent assessment of the entire vendor field from a technology perspective. Only Gartner can deliver that whole view." According to Gartner Dataquest, IT buyers will spend $2 billion on business intelligence in 2003 and the sector is forecast to grow to $2.3 billion by 2005. The nine vendors rated in the new service are Business Objects, Cognos, Crystal Decisions, Hyperion Solutions, Information Builders, NCR, Oracle, Sagent and SAS Institute. Gartner Vendor Ratings adhere to a strict methodology that ensures the most comprehensive, up-to-date view of each technology vendor. Gartner analysts examine the performance and viability of a vendor's entire portfolio of products. Analysts then assign an overall rating to the entire firm. The ratings include Strong Negative, Negative, Caution, Neutral, Promising, Positive, and Strong Positive. Those ratings are based on Gartner's intellectual capital and on technology assessment and viability. For more information about Gartner Vendor Ratings, visit www.gartner.com.
