PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal 8.8 First to Deliver Integrated Real-Time Collaboration; New Features Drive Efficiencies Beyond the EnterpriseHANNOVER, Germany, March 14, 2003 -- At CeBIT 2003, PeopleSoft Inc. (Nasdaq:PSFT) announced its new portal solution, Enterprise Portal 8.8. The solution includes breakthrough capabilities such as Resource Finder, user-driven site management and integrated instant messaging from IBM, Microsoft and Yahoo!. These features enable business users to quickly locate, connect to and collaborate with the appropriate person for a given task or business process, as well as maintain control over tailored sub-sites within the Portal. As a result, companies can accelerate the completion of business processes and reduce IT costs. "We expect a significant reduction of both hard and soft dollar costs from streamlining and standardizing our internet sub sites, development and maintenance," said Kyle Whittemore, director of Executive Compensation, PMI Mortgage Insurance. "Resource Finder will also allow us to reduce internal costs of maintaining company directories and organization charts while giving our employees and customers real time access to reliable and accurate information. With PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal 8.8, we will be able to raise the bar in providing access to vital company information, helping our employees and customers make more informed decisions while reducing our IT overhead." New wizard-driven site administration capabilities enable business users to create and deploy tailored community specific sub-sites with little or no assistance from the IT department. By giving business users community management responsibility, companies can reduce IT costs and ensure that content is constantly updated and kept relevant. With Resource Finder, users can immediately locate any resource needed to help execute a business process. For example, users can quickly find a customer who has purchased a particular product, a member of an organization who can answer a specific supplier request or the appropriate application to create an expense report. Integrated instant messaging technologies allow users to detect whether their business partners are online, and immediately communicate with them in real time to expedite business transactions. "Organizations have now proven the value of portals internally and want to leverage those benefits outside the firewall as well, with suppliers, partners, and customers," said Craig Roth, vice president, META Group. "This shift requires portal vendors to address the complexity of cross-enterprise relationships that can require higher volumes, dozens if not hundreds of sub-sites, and solid reliability." "In the early portal market, having a solid infrastructure was the ticket to entry, but now it's about efficiency across business processes -- making them more accessible and easier to manage," said Rick Bergquist, chief technology officer, PeopleSoft. "PeopleSoft's Enterprise Portal 8.8 helps users, both within and beyond the enterprise, efficiently collaborate, influence and execute business processes." To date, more than 600 customers have licensed the Enterprise Portal, a key component of the PeopleSoft AppConnect suite. PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal 8.8 will be generally available in the U.S. on March 19 and internationally on May 28. Instant messaging capabilities from IBM and Yahoo! will be generally available worldwide in Q2. Instant messaging capabilities from Microsoft will be generally available in Q4.
