Conference Debuts Showcasing Latest Advances From Leading Researchers

SAN FRANCISCO, March 19, 2003 -- Wearable computing. Wireless Systems-on-a-Chip. Wireless network security. The First International Conference on Mobile Systems, Applications and Services -- MobiSys '03 -- May 5-8, here, debuts with a lineup of the world's leading mobile systems researchers presenting the latest research on today's most debated mobile topics.

Jointly sponsored by leading computer science professional organizations -- ACM SIGMOBILE and The USENIX Association, in cooperation with ACM SIGOPS, MobiSys '03 http://www.usenix.org/mobisys03 fills a well-recognized need of the mobile and wireless community for a world-class conference that focuses on systems development, as well as analysis, and features original and important results in mobile systems research.

Bob Brodersen, world-renowned for his work on integrated analog/digital systems on a chip, delivers the keynote address: Design of Wireless Systems-on-a-Chip. Brodersen, co-scientific director of the Berkeley Wireless Research Center, University of California, Berkeley and a member of the National Academy of Engineering, will discuss how system level designers can control the Systems-on-a-Chip design process.

MobiSys '03 offers high-quality papers from authors around the world. It covers security, location management, application support, mobile architectures, sensor networks, energy management, analysis of mobile networks, application mobility, and systems techniques for solving mobility problems.

A full day of technical tutorials taught by expert technologists includes, An Intro to Wearable Computing, Mobile Networking, 802.11 Wireless Network Security, and Programming Wireless Sensor/Effector Networks of TinyOS Motes.

A combined demo and poster session features presentation of demos and early-stage research, and Birds-of-a-Feather Sessions offer informal discussions among colleagues of similar interests.
