CA's CleverPath Positioned in Leader Quadrant in the Business Rules Engine Sector

CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert Secures a Top Position In 2003 Business Rules Engine Magic Quadrant

ISLANDIA, N.Y., May 15, 2003 -- Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced that CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert has been listed in the "Leader" category of Gartner, Inc.'s Business Rules Engine (BRE) 2003 Magic Quadrant. This marks the second consecutive year that Gartner has placed CleverPath in the leaders quadrant in the $200 million BRE marketplace.

The report positions CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert highly in the key assessment categories of "completeness of vision" and "ability to execute." Gartner defines Magic Quadrant leaders as vendors who are performing well today, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership position in the market.

"We are pleased to be recognized once again for our technology leadership and vision for the business rules engine market," said Ricardo Antuna, CA's vice president of marketing for CleverPath solutions. "Gartner's assessment confirms what CleverPath customers already know -- that CA solutions do a superlative job of capturing corporate knowledge and human expertise to drive significantly improved decision-making."

CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert provides a sophisticated business rules engine, advanced inferencing capabilities, and a component-based development environment that allows organizations to rapidly build and deploy intelligent rules-based applications. Non-technical business personnel can easily build and maintain their own business rules.

"We estimate that the BRE market comprises revenue of more than $200 million, and will continue to grow at a steady rate during the next several years," wrote Gartner vice president Jim Sinur in the report. Sinur also stated that a stand-alone rule market will emerge as enterprises become more comfortable with rules and problem domains become more complex over time.

Commerce West Insurance Company, which provides automobile insurance in California and Oregon, has reduced resource requirements, costs and renewal time by using CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert to automate nearly 3,000 policy transactions per week. "CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert is a very powerful business rules management solution," said George Jeffers, director of information technology, Commerce West. "Its automation capabilities have made it easy for us to streamline complex processes and adapt quickly to changing business conditions."

The Magic Quadrant is Gartner, Inc.'s opinion and is an analytical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It measures vendors against Gartner defined criteria for a marketplace. The positioning of vendors within a Magic Quadrant is based on the complex interplay of many factors. Gartner does not advise enterprises to select only those firms in the "Leaders" quadrant. In some situations, firms in the Visionary, Challenger, or Niche Player quadrants may be the right matches for an enterprise's requirements. Well-informed vendor selection decisions should rely on more than a Magic Quadrant.
