Intergraph Customers Sweep Three of Four Poster Session Categories at 2003 GIS-T SymposiumWinning entries demonstrate application of geospatial data and GIS software in transportation community HUNTSVILLE, Ala., May 1, 2003 - At the recent GIS for Transportation Symposium (GIS-T) in Colorado Springs, Colo., Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions' customers Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT), Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT), Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) and Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) were honored for their winning entries in the 2003 GIS-T Poster Session. The Intergraph technology-based winning entries illustrate how geospatial data and GIS software and hardware are being used within the transportation industry. The Poster Session enables attendees to share techniques and applications with peers in the transportation community. Intergraph's technology was instrumental in developing the following entries: -- Best Analytical Application - Oklahoma Department of Transportation "2003 Highway Needs Study" Using Intergraph technology to produce detailed maps, ODOT senior staff takes advantage of these analysis tools so that lawmakers can visualize serious and widespread highway road condition problems throughout the state of Oklahoma. -- Best Analytical Application Honorable Mention - Kansas Department of Transportation "FY 2000 - 2009 Comprehensive Transportation Program" For KDOT, Intergraph's technology was key in the aggregation and transfer of data resources into a quality cartographic product, which supports presentations to the legislature to secure funding for future road projects. -- Best Software/Data Integration - Iowa Department of Transportation "Conflating Address Data Using Conventional GIS Tools" Intergraph's aggregation tools enabled address data to be aggregated to the linear referencing system centerline in a time-efficient manner for better analysis and information management in Iowa DOT's winning entry. -- Best State Highway Map - Iowa Department of Transportation Iowa DOT used Intergraph's digital cartography technology for the winning map entry. The digital workflow emulates conventional cartographic production and printing methods, allowing cartographers at Iowa DOT to use a digital workflow without sacrificing cartographic quality. -- Best State Highway Map Honorable Mention - Delaware Department of Transportation Intergraph's cartographic production tools provide capabilities such as user-defined symbologies and complete control over feature composition specifications. These tools allow DelDOT cartographers to maintain exacting cartographic specifications while producing color-separated and screened negatives for printing. This flexibility was instrumental in developing Delaware DOT's winning map entry. This year, posters displayed information covering traffic crash data, traveler routing information, incident response, pavement management and environmental maps. Awards were presented in four categories: analytical application; software/data integration; cartographic; and state highway map. Entries in the first three categories were judged by a panel of transportation professionals and evaluated on functionality, data accessibility, format, design, technical details and more. The fourth and final category, best highway map, presented an opportunity for all 50 states and the District of Columbia to enter a copy of their state highway map for evaluation. Of the 36 state highway maps received and displayed at the symposium, attendees cast their vote for the most outstanding map. "The annual Poster Session competition provides an invaluable opportunity for transportation professionals to familiarize themselves with the latest advances in the application of geospatial technology within the industry," said David Kingsbury, managing director of Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions' North America Transportation Competency Center. "We are extremely pleased that so many of our customers took the initiative and time to enter this contest and that our solutions and proven technology played an instrumental role in the development of these outstanding entries."
