Reference Architectures Offer a Framework to Meet Business-Critical Needs

SAN DIEGO, FORUM 2003, Oct. 28, 2003 -- StorageTek(R) (Storage Technology Corporation) (NYSE: STK), the storage services and solutions expert, introduced a series of its Information Lifecycle Management(TM) reference architectures as well as several Information Lifecycle Management solutions to reinforce how StorageTek is best equipped to help customers solve their critical information management issues. The announcement coincides with its 15th annual user conference FORUM.

The heterogeneous reference architectures, which are compiled of multiple StorageTek solutions as well as third-party products, easily integrate into any company's existing data storage infrastructure. They include; Open Systems Archiving, which offers customers complete, cost-effective archive solutions that automatically manage data movement across a tiered storage hierarchy; Mainframe Archiving, which helps businesses manage information cost efficiently across a tiered storage hierarchy in a mainframe environment; and Open Systems Data Protection, which provides customers with assurance that their business critical data is protected at all times.

Each of the solutions is based on the Information Lifecycle Management reference architectures. The solutions will highlight products such as:

* A replication appliance for local and remote data replication and mirroring. This is a SAN-level solution designed for seamless integration in heterogeneous environments. The product, to be announced later this week, delivers advanced enterprise-class business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities, enhanced disk-to-disk backup, and centralized storage management and consolidation at a low total cost of ownership (TCO).

* EchoView(TM), a data protection iSCSI appliance that revolutionizes data protection and availability, continuously protects data while it is being created -- allowing customers to totally shatter the backup window and for quick and easy recovery of business critical data. EchoView reduces the amount of time and resources involved in backing up business-critical data by using "set and forget" policies. Its ability to continuously and automatically protect data enables customers to allocate those resources to other areas of the data center where they may be better utilized.

* E-mail archiving solutions, a software suite that combines expert assistance and planning with best-of-breed software and hardware to help businesses gain control and better manage email. With more e-mail flowing through companies and stricter legislation requiring longer periods of retention, StorageTek's professional services experts help companies plan and implement the most cost-effective infrastructure available (either remotely or via on-site management) to support the email environment.

* Storage management software for Mainframe environments that utilizes policy-based management practices to manage data and retrieval across a hierarchy or storage systems, enables customers to migrate any database rows older than 50 days to a tape copy in a local library, and automatically creates a disk copy of the data, allowing users to transparently access the data at disk response times for the first 50 days and at the industry's best nearline response times from tape for older data.
