BellSouth Announces Web-Based Tool Giving Customers Helpful Information on Basic Phone Service Repairs

BellSouth (R) Web Repair Service provides self-help tips that can save time, money

ATLANTA, Sept. 4, 2003 -- BellSouth (NYSE: BLS) announced today a new Web-based tool giving residential customers useful information and guidance to handle basic telephone service problems, such as noise on the line, inability to receive calls or loss of dial tone.

The tool, named BellSouth (R) Web Repair Service, provides customers with "Quick Troubleshooting Tips" to determine possible causes of their phone service problem and to address the causes in a timely manner. Using the troubleshooting information, customers may match their service trouble with a likely solution in real time, potentially saving them time and money for repairs.

The "Quick Troubleshooting Tips" can be downloaded free or printed out at http://www.bellsouth.com/fixquick . BellSouth (R) Web Repair Service also provides detailed information on BellSouth service agreements for maintenance of inside wire and equipment, so customers will have handy reference materials regarding available coverage of problems.

Many basic telephone service problems result from a faulty jack, poor-quality inside wiring, or defective equipment -- be it a phone, fax machine, security system and others. Often, those problems may be resolved by following the basic step-by-step information found on the repair service site.
