Demand for Data Integration Moves Beyond the Data Warehouse, Says Study From Leading Analyst FirmData Synchronization and Consolidation to Help Drive Data Integration Market to Almost $11 Billion by 2007 REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 13, 2004 -- Informatica Corporation (Nasdaq: INFA), a leading provider of data integration and business intelligence software, today announced a rapidly growing demand for data integration (DI) solutions beyond traditional data warehousing. According to research conducted for Informatica by International Data Corp. (IDC), over the next 24 months data synchronization and consolidation will tie with data warehousing for the most number of new DI projects. "This study shows that while traditional data warehouse-driven DI projects will continue to increase in number, there's a growing number of other DI projects coming online that are equally, if not more, dependent on robust data integration," said Steve McClure, research vice president in the Software Research Group of International Data Corp., a leading market research firm based in Framingham, Mass. "As IT projects such as data synchronization, system consolidation and BAM start fueling the lion's share of DI growth, companies need to be looking at DI solutions in terms of their mainframe and real-time capabilities, in addition to their leveragability across numerous challenging projects in order achieve maximum ROI." According to the new IDC research, total worldwide DI spending is projected to grow to $10.9 billion by 2007, up nearly 50 percent from $7.3 billion in 2002. Among companies surveyed for the study, respondents expect to engage in approximately 47 development projects having DI requirements over the next 24 months -- averaging two projects per month. Additionally, the number of respondents engaged in such projects over the next 24 months will be 8 to 29 percent greater than the previous 24 months. DI-dependent project categories expected to increase in number of projects undertaken include Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) (48 percent), system consolidation (31 percent), single view/reference hubs (15 percent), and traditional data warehousing (10 percent). The study also reveals that 45 percent of the companies surveyed maintain more than 50 percent of their corporate data in mainframe environments, making the ability to integrate mainframe data efficiently a common factor in integration projects. Moreover, while the average DI project integrates data from three sources, 22 percent of projects involving DI integrate from four or five sources, 10 percent integrate from six to 14 sources and 13 percent integrate from 15 or more sources. "The global DI market is currently defined by two dynamics-one is the emergence of new high-growth segments beyond data warehousing, and the other is an overall complexity of data-intensive integration projects," said Paul Albright, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Informatica. "Informatica has always advocated a consistent, long-term platform approach to enterprise DI, which among other things makes it easier for customers to take advantage of new integration-centric business opportunities. The ability to integrate any kind of mainframe data and the high performance required for data synchronization and consolidation are integral capabilities of the Informatica platform."
