New Information Systems Security Program Offered OnlineIncreasing Demand for Information Security Professionals Drives New Program Development by the University of Denver DENVER, April 2, 2004 -- With a growing world-wide demand for trained information system security professionals, University College, the University of Denver's adult graduate education program, has developed both a Master's in Computer Information Systems with a concentration in Information Systems Security and a stand-alone Certificate of Advanced Study in Information Systems Security. "The most appealing aspect of our program is that it is available online," said Dr. Ernest Eugster, Academic Director of the Computer Information Systems program at University College at The University of Denver. "Now you can participate in our program no matter where you live, what your travel schedule is, or where you work. It offers the maximum amount of flexibility for students to earn a Master's degree or professional certificate while they work." University College offers a Master's degree or professional certificate in Information Systems Security. Certificates do not require a bachelor's degree and require a minimum of 24-quarter hours or about 18 months of study. Course work for the Certificate of Advanced Study can be applied to the completion of the master's degree. University College courses are also held on-ground as well as online in five- and 10-week formats, respectively. The curriculum was designed around the Common Body of Knowledge for CISSP certification, developed by the International Information Systems Security Certifications Consortium (ISC)(R) as well as in collaboration with the Denver chapter of the Information Security Systems Association (ISSA) to ensure relevance. Furthermore, University College labs give "hands-on" experience with different security tools, better preparing students for real-world security challenges. More important, the University College courses help prepare students to take ISC, CISSP and GIAC certification exams. "Courses include Access Control and Physical Security, Network Security with Lab, and Cyber-security law," said Eugster. "And we have gone deeper into security issues by offering courses in computer forensics, wireless and making a business case for security. "Working adults who are eager to grow personally and professionally in the information systems security field will find the options this program provides just what they need to adapt their education to their busy lifestyles. Our collaborative learning environment is flexible and our programs are taught by professionals who bring real-world-knowledge into the classroom in addition to impressive education credentials," said Eugster. "And whether on campus or off, our classes fit our students' schedules and are competitively priced. They can take courses at night, on weekends and even online." With either a degree or certificate in this University College program, graduates are prepared for careers in security management, system administration, or security analysis.
