Documentum Delivers New Standards-Based Portlet Development Toolset and Portlets

PLEASANTON, Calif., May 11, 2004 -- At Momentum, the Documentum User Conference, Documentum, the leading provider of enterprise content management and a division of EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC), today announced the availability of a new portlet development toolset, new Documentum web content management portlets and enhancements to Documentum's existing portlets. The Documentum Web Development Kit (WDK) for Portlets leverages Documentum's component-based, open standards architecture, enabling portal and systems administrators to quickly deploy and customize Documentum functionality in a portal. The new Documentum portlets are a set of embeddable application components that deliver out-of-box content management capabilities to any portal that supports the new portal computing standard, Java Specification Request 168 (JSR 168). These portlets enable organizations to easily publish content to multiple channels and help users interact and manage web content, through leading portal frameworks.

In releasing the new development environment and portlets, Documentum continues its leadership in support of industry standards, and its commitment to providing an open, vendor-neutral architecture that enables developers, customers and partners to easily customize and expose Documentum functionality through any portal framework.

"The new Documentum portlets will enable us to combine our content applications, such as policies, personalized communities and custom reports for customers with other HR and eCommerce applications, all within a single portal interface," said John Mallon, applications development manager for Towers Perrin, a global human resources consulting and administration firm. "They will help us streamline content contribution processes and increase our efficiency in managing the content that powers our corporate portals and websites."

Portals have become the preferred user interface for global enterprises to access information and perform business tasks using both content applications and other business applications such as ERP, CRM or SCM systems. Hundreds of Documentum customers have integrated the Documentum ECM platform with portals for a unified content infrastructure for deploying content applications. The integration provides a consistent experience, simplified interface and ease- of-use features that enable even non-technical workers to create, manage and publish content along side other business applications. The new Documentum web content management portlets add to Documentum's existing family of portlets for enterprise document management and collaboration. All of the portlets provide single sign-on functionality to ensure ease-of-use in the portal environment.

"With the portlet development toolset and new portlets, Documentum is again helping customers to simplify the customization of business processes to match specific requirements," said Dave DeWalt, president of the Documentum software division of EMC. "As portals continue to explode across enterprises, Documentum's open, standards-based architecture enables customers to have centralized access and management of content in a unified repository for optimal efficiency."
