Predictive Modeling Increasing ROI for Medicaid Managed Care

BALTIMORE, May 18, 2004 -- Predictive Modeling (PM) is currently being touted as a panacea for case management programs permitting error-free and unambiguous identification of high risk cases that are ripe for intervention. At the 12th Annual Medicaid Managed Care Congress pre-conference workshop "Reviewing State-of-the-Art Choices in Predictive Modeling and Risk Measurement, Guidance on Using Predictive Modeling to Support Case Identification," workshop leaders Dr. Jonathan Weiner and Dr. David Boycombe of Johns Hopkins University will look beyond the hype surrounding predictive modeling. The discussion explores how PM fits within an evidence-driven and clinically appropriate case identification process. A case study from a real world implementation of PM within a Medicaid plan demonstrates the challenges and benefits afforded by incorporation of findings from PM models. The session concludes with an interactive exercise demonstrating how to make the most of PM results so as to maximize return on investment.
