Chairman of the judging panel, Robert S. Seiner, publisher of TDAN.com and President & Principal of KIK Consulting & Educational Services, said “Intel Corporation was selected from a pool of accomplished entries because of the evolution of their solution and their demonstrated commitment to data and metadata quality.” Seiner added “The judging was very close, but on balance the judges felt that Intel had best proven its long-term success in terms of the measurable ROI of their meta-data program.”

“Intel is excited to have won the 2004 Wilshire Award for Best Practices in Meta Data Management,” acknowledged Gregg Wyant, Intel’s Chief Data Architect and manager of the Enterprise Data Architecture team, in accepting the award. “This award recognizes the hard work and dedication of our Metadata Services team in delivering a robust solution that enables our data quality and reuse initiatives. Metadata management, in conjunction with governance and measured business value results, is THE key enabler to achieve maintainable data quality. With the implementation of our second generation Enterprise Metadata Repository (EMR) and the processes that guarantee ongoing metadata quality, we have further enabled the foundation for managing data as an asset and enterprise architecture at Intel.”

What does it take to win the Meta Data Best Practices Award? According to Tony Shaw, chairman of Wilshire Conferences, “the companies which did the best in the judging had a combination of a) long-term demonstrable success, b) proven ROI (with specific financial metrics to back up their claims) and c) continual improvement and expansion of the role of metadata in other IT programs, such as application development, quality initiatives, business intelligence, and/or governance/compliance.

Presentation of the Wilshire Award took place on at the Wilshire Meta-Data Conference & DAMA Symposium, in Los Angeles, California. John Ladley, president of KI Solutions, and a member of the judges panel, made the presentation.
