This page assists the health care administrator in the review and evaluation of various industry tools.

The following tools can meet a variety of needs. Many systems integrate data from existing sources as a basis for decisions. Examples of health care tools include clinical systems, point-to-point interfaces, databases, administrative systems, budgets, forecasts, financial systems, analysis, reports, evaluation, and utilization patterns.

Product description: Alliance for Decision Support (for Providers) is an enterprise-wide decision support system that provides a variety of analytical capabilities. The technology integrates clinical, administrative, and financial information from base systems to support decision-making across the company. Focus is on five areas of health management. Clinical management supports clinical performance measurement and utilization management. Contract management proactively manages contractual relationships and organizational operation by integrating every aspect of the contracting cycle. Contract Profiler and Calculator utilizes GUI and wizards to assist users in entering, testing, storing, and calculating contract terms to determine expected reimbursement during the nightly billing cycle. Cost management aggregates and provides easy access to unit costs and resource utilization data. Data within the formats can be defined and sorted using different variables. The formats might include market share, patient origin reporting, resource utilization, and physician trending.

Product description: Database software applications that create, maintain, and clean large health care databases. DBAssistant provides a user-friendly, cost-effective approach to assembling, cleansing, and organizing the critical data that organizations need to improve quality and manage cost, with an emphasis on claims management, disease management, and pharmaceutical cost management.

They can be classified in two separate categories. Budgeting systems are used for projecting current fiscal year and monthly budgeting for the following 12 months. Financial Modeling Systems offer a long term version to the budgeting system and prepare an economic and financial forecast for up to 7 years. The products are written for hospitals and nursing homes. Current models are constantly updated to keep up with the changing health care industry. These products have been available since 1987. Since the data is already loaded into the model, the learning curve of adapting to the system is lessened.
