The United States 9th Circuit Court selects ColumbiaSoft's Document Locator for affordable electronic document management

The Office of the Circuit Executive is Putting Archived Documents Online

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 1, 2006 -- The U.S. 9th Circuit Court selects Document Locator (R) -- ColumbiaSoft Corporation announced today that The Office of the Circuit Executive for the Judicial Council of the Ninth Circuit has joined the growing list of customers using Document Locator. The Office of the Circuit Executive (OCE) provides administration and staff support to the Judicial Council of the Ninth Circuit, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, District Courts, Bankruptcy Courts, and Probation/Pretrial units.

"We were looking for an affordable solution with very strong scanning and searching capabilities," said Stephen Sue, Manager of IT Services. "In addition, Document Locator's integration with Microsoft Windows (R) Explorer makes it extremely intuitive and easy to use, while also being compatible with our existing infrastructure of Novell, Word Perfect, and Lotus Notes applications. Finally, the solution enables us to securely publish documents to constituents on the Web, which greatly expands our opportunities to increase efficiency and improve client service."

"The OCE is required to store, manage, and occasionally retrieve documents such as archived case files in support of Court activities," stated Carl Azar, VP of Marketing and Product Development for ColumbiaSoft. "By making these records available electronically, the OCE will dramatically increase efficiency while reducing the cost of storing thousands of paper files. Efficiency will be improved for other court activities by using Document Locator versioning, checkout/in, workflow automation, records management, and archiving for electronic administrative documents."

The Office of the Circuit Executive chose Document Locator based on affordability, security and auditing features, reliability, and ease of use. The OCE is using a networked scanner to backscan several hundred boxes of archived case files and judicial reviews that are currently stored off site. Access time to these archived files is now reduced from days to minutes by using fulltext digital searches. As they are closed, future case documents can be scanned directly into the Document Locator repository from networked multifunction printers (MFPs). Document security is ensured with group and user permissions at the repository, folder, and file levels. Selected human resources and financial records will also be securely published to the OCE intranet to improve those internal processes.
