Announcing the Teradata case competition for researchers: proposals due May 1, 2010

Hugh Watson, Professor of MIS, in the Terry College of Business, at the University of Georgia, USA, is coordinating the TCC.

April 2, 2010 -- Are you interested in a summer project that is compensated and results in recognition and publication? If so, you may be interested in the Teradata Case Competition (TCC). Its purpose is to support the development of case studies from around the world that illustrate the successful practice of BI and data warehousing by Teradata’s customers. The researcher(s) is expected to have an existing relationship with the Teradata customer used for the case study. Completed cases will be made available to the academic community to support instruction and research and will also be used by Teradata to illustrate best practices and the value of BI and data warehousing.

The TCC involves a multi-stage process. The first stage requires the submission of a proposal (due May 1, 2010). Proposals will be reviewed by leading academics and Teradata managers and professionals to identify those that are accepted for funding. Accepted proposals will be announced on June 1 and the researcher(s) will receive $2,500 for the development of the case. Completed cases are due on September 30. They are expected to be approximately 15-30 pages (i.e., 5,000 to 10,000 words) in length, including all tables and figures. Once the case is successfully completed, and permissions are granted to use the case, the researcher(s) will receive an additional $7,500. The completed case studies will be judged, and depending on the number of completed cases, up to three cases will be named as winners in the TCC. The first place winner will receive $10,000, second place $5,000, and third place $2,500. The TCC winners will be announced on November 15. The case studies will be professionally copy edited and placed on Teradata.com and the Teradata University Network, and used by Teradata to demonstrate best practices and the value of BI and data warehousing. Teradata will recognize the winners of the competition through a variety of communication channels. Assistance will be given the authors in determining how to use their case materials in various publication outlets.
