PeopleSoft announces new sales and operations planning solution

2004 APICS International Conference and Exposition
Solution Aligns Operational and Financial Plans Enabling Rapid Response to Demand Fluctuation, Accurate Supply Chain Decisions

SAN DIEGO, CA, Oct. 11, 2004 -- Today at the 2004 APICS International Conference and Exposition, PeopleSoft Inc. (Nasdaq:PSFT) announced PeopleSoft Sales and Operations Planning 8.11, a new solution that enables virtual collaboration between sales, manufacturing operations, engineering, and finance. As a result, manufacturers can better plan for demand fluctuation, simulate the financial implications of supply chain decisions, and more effectively manage business operations.

According to Lora Cecere of AMR Research, "The PeopleSoft Supply Chain Planning 8.11 S&OP tool is one of the most comprehensive products on the market." Cecere also stated, "The product also includes significant upgrades for consensus forecasting and Sales and Operational Planning. The use of a probable forecast range helps guide supplier and operational planning." ("PeopleSoft Gets Serious About Demand-Driven Manufacturing," September 23, 2004, AMR Research)

Sales and operations planning is a critical business practice for demand-driven manufacturers and distribution companies who seek to maximize throughput and profit from their supply chain. Unlike other niche solutions, PeopleSoft Sales and Operations Planning links transactional and financial data enabling companies to make more informed supply chain decisions. The solution also embeds industry best practices, pre-configured key performance indicators, and scenario-based planning tools that allow users to identify constraints and conflicts in plans, evaluate alternatives, and prioritize responses.

In addition, PeopleSoft's Sales and Operations Planning module leverages Dr. Eli Goldratt's Theory of Constraints principles of identifying and managing critical supply chain limitations. The solution was also designed with the help of Dr. Richard Ling, who is widely recognized as an expert on sales and operations planning. Embedding the knowledge of these industry experts into the new PeopleSoft solution distinguishes it from any other sales and planning solution on the market.

"We're very excited about PeopleSoft's new Sales and Operations Planning module. This new module will assist us to align our demand plans with production, supply, marketing, and financial plans -- helping us get to the next level in our demand-driven journey," said Ross Bradley, CIO, Berri Ltd. " The solution will provide additional support for our growth strategies focused on product innovation and geographic expansion. We are already leveraging PeopleSoft Demand Consensus and Strategic Network Optimization products as a foundation for our sales and operations planning process. The new module will help us to become even more competitive and responsive to changing customer demands."

Manufacturers today are under intense pressure to effectively manage the entire sales and operations planning process. A major challenge they face is that siloed operational data makes the supply chain planning process difficult to manage and imprecise. PeopleSoft Sales and Operation planning aligns an organization's supply, demand and financial plans, resulting in a holistic business view, versus a departmental view. The solution enables companies to:

-- Adapt and respond quickly to market changes with advanced tools for scenario planning and decision support analysis

-- Better anticipate customer demand by increasing visibility into supply chain operations

-- Reduce inventories across different locations in the supply chain through constraint-based buffer management

-- Lower overall costs through better management of resources and alignment of business objectives with operational plans

"The Achilles' heel of sales and operations planning has been the inability to integrate critical business information across sales, manufacturing operations, engineering and finance," said Les Wyatt, group vice president and general manager, PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne. "PeopleSoft Sales and Operations Planning breaks down information silos and provides a connected view of supply chain operations, enabling companies to better anticipate and respond to changing customer demand."

PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne Demand Flow(R) Manufacturing, PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne RFID Processor, and PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne CRM 8.11 were announced today in separate PeopleSoft press releases. These new products, along with PeopleSoft Sales and Operations Planning, deliver a complete Demand-Driven Manufacturing solution - from customer demand to supply chain planning to manufacturing and in-bound supply - all operating in real-time.

PeopleSoft Sales and Operations Planning will be generally available in December 2004.
