McDonald's Canada standardizes on Cognos ReportNet(TM) for enterprise-wide reporting

Allows Organization to Standardize All of Its Reporting Requirements on a Single Solution

BURLINGTON, Mass., Jan. 25, 2005 -- Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and corporate performance management (CPM), today announced that McDonald's Canada has signed an agreement to deploy Cognos ReportNet(TM) for its enterprise-wide reporting needs. McDonald's Canada chose Cognos ReportNet because it allows the organization to standardize all of its reporting requirements on a single solution, dramatically reducing total cost of ownership.

With its mission-critical performance, scalability, and multilingual support, Cognos ReportNet will be deployed to McDonald's Canada's corporate and franchise restaurants, community of owner operators and head office personnel. It will provide performance information on profit and loss, cash flow, sales, operations, and human resources. Cognos ReportNet creates a true self-service reporting environment against a number of information systems, including IBM DB2.

"With Cognos ReportNet, we expect to be able to create complex business reports and identify management action in a matter of minutes, putting critical information in the hands of our restaurant owners and management -- driving competitive advantage," said Gene Genin, vice president of IT at McDonald's Restaurants of Canada Limited. "Cognos ReportNet gives us a true self-service reporting environment to leverage the rich information housed in our IBM solutions."

Built upon a service-oriented architecture, Cognos ReportNet scales to hundreds of thousands of users and draws upon Cognos' reporting and query leadership. It is an integral part of the Cognos Enterprise BI (EBI) Series, including flexible scorecards, dashboards, powerful industry-leading OLAP analysis, event management, and data integration.

This is a proven, successful company that recognizes that business intelligence is a strategic imperative in achieving their corporate performance management goals," said Karen Williams, vice president of product marketing, Cognos.
