Astea announces strategic planning tool for field service workforce optimization

New Tool Improves Response-Time Planning for Maximum Productivity

HORSHAM, Pa., July 8, 2005 -- Astea International Inc. (Nasdaq: ATEA), a global provider of service management solutions, announces a new simulation and planning module that complements its Alliance Dynamic Scheduling Engine (DSE). The Alliance FieldForce Planner enables managers to determine optimal resource utilization and service schedules based on the structure and operating policies of their workforce. In addition to improving plan accuracy, managers can quickly and easily conduct "what if?" analyses to investigate how changing the way business is conducted could lead to improved performance.

"Field service workforce optimization continues to be a major challenge for many service organizations as companies are required to provide more services with less resources," said Debbie Geiger, Vice President of Marketing for Astea International. "With the Alliance FieldForce Planner, every organization can easily perform sophisticated analyses and proactively create and plans with confidence, knowing that they have the right resources in place and are maximizing those resources to drive business benefits."

Alliance FieldForce Planner is a separate module that incorporates customer's imported data and develops an instant, detailed simulation model to accurately capture the relationship between your existing service call and operational characteristics, and customer requirements. By easily changing the multitude of parameters available (i.e. skill set, contract terms, response rate, availability, job type, etc.) managers can run an infinite number of simulations and then compare those results against the original model. Once an optimized plan has been generated, to achieve an organization's operational and financial goals, this plan can be translated into the Alliance DSE for real-time dynamic and intelligent scheduling.

The Alliance FieldForce Planner leverages the most up-to-date algorithms and sophisticated business rules that work behind the scenes making it an easy tool for business managers to use in their planning. "This module leverages advanced technology to enable organizations to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to planning," states Geiger. "Most organizations conduct planning manually, using spreadsheets, we are eliminating this manual process and making it simple for business users to figure out those parameters that have the greatest impact on their operations and then adjust their plans accordingly."
