Reckitt Benckiser selects ProClarity for range of business analysis applications to provide increased competitive edge

London and Boise, IDAHO - June 3, 2003 - Reckitt Benckiser, the world's number one manufacturer of household cleaning products, healthcare products and food and best known for brands like Lysol, Resolve, Woolite, Electrasol, Wizard, Vanish, Calgon and French's Mustard, has invested in ProClarity, the award-winning Business Intelligence software, to help focus the business on those areas identified as key to managing and improving business performance. The solution will give 2,500 managers, sales staff and employees worldwide a complete picture of their business to enable them to analyze information more effectively and thereby respond to problem areas more quickly.

"In order to make effective decisions quickly, we need a consistent view of the entire business, neatly integrated into our desktop environment. It is only by measuring the business consistently that we will be able to manage it even more effectively," explained Bart Becht, CEO of Reckitt Benckiser.

All 2,500 users, including Mr. Becht and his senior management team, right down to the country managers and the sales force, will measure the performance of their part of the business with a series of Key Performance Indicators. The system will focus the business on those areas identified as key to managing and improving business performance. By rolling out a common view across the business, all users are working on the same information and assumptions and thus driving in the same direction. The measures have begun to communicate clear direction and definite priorities to the company's managers.

"The ProClarity application has allowed us to establish a single view of our Key Business drivers," explained Tony Gallagher, senior vice president, Information Services for Reckitt Benckiser. "These are displayed in a uniquely designed scorecard, which presents an instant view of the current status whilst highlighting any opportunities or areas of issue." He continued, "Initially, we were keen to make further use of our existing business intelligence tool, but it didn't meet our precise requirements, then we saw ProClarity - it was able to give us the precise view we wanted and in a time frame suitable to the business."

One of ProClarity's main strengths is that it has been developed specifically for the Microsoft Analysis Services multidimensional database. And because the ProClarity developers work very closely with Microsoft, ProClarity can exploit all of the Microsoft Analysis Services features as soon as they are released, thereby passing on the resultant benefits to the users. Another key advantage is that since Analysis Services is included with the SQL Server(tm) 2000 database, the cost of deploying a ProClarity solution is comparatively low.

Duncan Botha, Project Manager for Reckitt Benckiser's implementation, commented, "We particularly like the openness of ProClarity, which allows us to easily add functionality, such as Visual Basic plug-ins to our applications. This flexibility will allow us to evolve as our business changes, with the minimum of development effort." He added, "The attitude that ProClarity has towards giving its customers what they want is impressive; we have found them to be a very customer-focused organization."

The ProClarity solution draws data directly from underlying JDEdwards transactional Accounting System, Lotus Notes and Siebel CRM solutions that Reckitt Benckiser has implemented as its core data capture systems. The data is consolidated within Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Analysis Services, providing a powerful and scalable multi-dimensional database.

The solution consolidates 400,000,000 records into just 660 key numbers that make up the Top Level KPI Scorecard deployed across Reckitt Benckiser's International business. Users can then drill down into more detailed analysis via a pre-defined path or, if they wish, perform their own ad-hoc analysis. The application provides the flexibility required to analyze the measures, deployed within an aggressive timescale via thin client architecture, throughout Reckitt Benckiser.

"We are delighted to be contributing to the ongoing success of Reckitt Benckiser," said Steve Cowell, VP Sales, ProClarity UK. "We were able to very quickly prove that we could meet their requirements head on; the deal was initially done in only 7 weeks - from the first meeting to signing the contract," he adds.
