Nominations are due March 15, 2006. 1. Award Statement The Association for Information Systems Special Interest Group on Decision Support, Knowledge and Data Management Systems (AIS SIG DSS: ISDSS) Award for Best Journal Article was established in Summer 2005 to annually recognize the author(s) who has (have) published the most significant article related to the domain of AIS SIG DSS: ISDSS as judged and selected by a committee of his/her peers. The selected article is recognized in the SIG DSS newsletter and at the Annual Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS) meeting. Honorable Mention articles may be recognized at the discretion of the award committee. The award consists of a certificate and a cash award of USD $250. The Honorarium is provided by AIS SIG DSS: ISDSS. For a co-authored article, all of the authors receive a letter of commendation, a certificate and share in the cash award. 2. Objectives The Best Journal article award of AIS SIG DSS: ISDSS has a number of objectives: i. To encourage AIS SIG DSS: ISDSS members to strive for excellence with publication of high quality Decision Support, Knowledge and Data Management Systems articles. ii. To recognize author(s) who make significant contributions to the field of Decision Support, Knowledge and Data Management Systems via scholarly publication. 3. Eligibility To be eligible, an article must have been published in 2005 or be available as an “in press” article at a journal web site prior to December 31, 2005. The article must be nominated by a member of AIS SIG DSS: ISDSS. The nominator cannot be an author/co-author of the article. If an article by a committee member is nominated, the member may ask that the article not be considered or must ask for a replacement on the award committee. Nominations must be received by March 15, 2006. 4. Selection Process The AIS SIG DSS: ISDSS Award Committee will select the single best article from among those nominated. The committee will follow a systematic review process using explicit criteria. The committee will NOT make its evaluation scores public nor announce a list of all articles nominated for the award. 5. Scoring System The scoring criteria and system outlined below will be used for ranking the candidate articles. 1. Originality/creativity weight=30% 2. Technical Content weight=30% 3. Relevance of Contribution weight=20% 4. Organization and Clarity weight=20% The following scoring will be used in the selection process. Score 5 if the element is “Excellent, Outstanding, World Class, a Breakthrough”, score 4 if the element is “Superior, Very Impressive; Merits Commendation”, score 3 if the element is “Very Good, Particularly Noteworthy, Very Promising”, score 2 if the element is “Good; But Not Particularly Noteworthy”, score 1 if the element is “Adequate, Potentially Promising”, and score 0 for “Marginal, Poor, Not Meritorious”. Each “Rating” should be an integer. Reviewers should use the above scale to assist them in assigning numerical ratings. Note that the scale is only intended to be linear between 1 and 5, not between 0 and 1. Any Element that could not be rated higher than “average” should be rated zero. When a committee member gives a high score on originality and creativity, the evaluation report must explain why and how exactly the article contributes to improving the state of the art. For scoring, any article which has an element rated “zero” should be explained in comments. The scale is designed to provide an adequate number of scores available to make distinctions between the best of the best articles. 6.
