THEME:
Decision-Making Support Systems (DMSS) are computer-based systems that
support some or several phases of the individual, team, organizational or
inter-organizational decision making process (Forgionne, Gupta and Mora,
2002; Forgionne, 1991). Research on DMSS can be focused on both
organizational and technical issues. From a technical perspective,
advances in Information Technologies (IT) have improved the support
capabilities for DMSS. In particular, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has
been recognized as a significant enhancement tool for DMSS (Goul,
Henderson and Tonge, 1992; Eom, 1998). However, despite the relevant
research progress in both DMSS and AI, the majority of the publications
are highly focused on either organizational or technical perspectives. We
estimate that a summarization and organization of the main findings in
both fields are necessary to help focus the discussion on an integration
of the tools for effective decision-making support.
The proposed book will help: (i) generate a compendium of quality
theoretical and applied contributions in Intelligent Decision-Making
Support Systems (i-DMSS); (ii) diffuse scarce knowledge about
foundations, architectures and effective and efficient methods and
strategies for successfully designing, developing, implementing, and
evaluating Intelligent Decision-Making Support Systems, and (iii) create
an awareness of, and a bridge between DMSS and AI academicians and
practitioners concerning the relevance of Intelligent Decision-Making
Support Systems in the current complex and dynamic management environment
(Gupta and Sharma, 2004).

SCOPE OF POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTIONS:
Chapters are solicited that contribute to these goals. The book is
planned to be structured into three sections. Potential topics to be
included in each section are the following:
Section I. Theoretical Foundations for I-DMSS (Around 30% of chapters)
In this section, we will have chapters that provide theories, models or
frameworks for i-DMSS; real or potential architectures for i-DMSS;
comparative analysis among i-DMSS vs non-i-DMSS; and foundations of
specific AI-based technologies and their relationships to i-DMSS.
Section II. Applications of i-DMSS (Around 40% of chapters)
In this section, chapters will report case studies of innovative real
i-DMSS applications deploying specific AI based technologies, such as
logic rule-based systems, neural networks, fuzzy logic, cased-based
reasoning, genetic algorithms, data mining algorithms, intelligent agents,
user intelligent interfaces among others.
Section III. Technical and Organizational Trends of I-DMSS (Around 30% of
chapters)
In this last section, we will have chapters that analyze the implications,
challenges and trends of i-DMSS for individual, team, organizational or
inter-organizational decision making processes, from a technical and
organizational perspective.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Please send all submissions electronically to: mmorauaa@securenym.net,
with copy to guptaj@uah.edu and forgionn@umbc.edu.The suggested length
for each manuscript will be 15 single-spaced pages using a font size of
Times Roman 10, including graphs, tables, figures, and references.Manuscripts should be prepared using the Springer-Verlag style guidelines
for authors (*).. A three-paged proposal including title, authors,
abstract (what, how and why issues) and a main list of references is
required before August 15, 2004.

IMPORTANT DATES:
* August 15, 2004 - deadline for receipt of three-paged proposals
including title, authors, 500-word abstract and main list of references.
* September 15, 2004 - deadline for notification of proposal accepted-
* November 30, 2004 - deadline for receipt of 1st version of chapters
* January 31, 2004 - deadline for notification of chapters accepted
* March 31, 2005 - deadline for receipt of 2nd version of chapters-
* May 31, 2005 - deadline for notification of final adjustments to
chapters and for receipt of camera ready versions
* July 15, 2005 - submission of full manuscript to Springer-Verlag.
Publication date is scheduled for the first quarter 2006.
