SAN JOSE, Calif., June 8, 2004 -- Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced new document services technologies for process management and document control and security. Delivered by Adobe(R) LiveCycle(TM) software, the new document services help organizations and governments manage business processes and enable more secure communications across the enterprise.

"Documents are the interface and currency to most business processes, however, most document processes are static and not secure," said Shantanu Narayen, executive vice president of worldwide products, Adobe. "They are not easily personalized, not integrated with enterprise systems and people cannot interact well with them on or off line."

With document services for process management, organizations can extend the reach of transactions and effectively capture, manage, and track information from disparate sources, whether people are on or off line, inside or outside the firewall. Document services for process management delivered by Adobe LiveCycle software (see separate press release) include Adobe Form Manager, Adobe Form Server, Adobe Barcoded Paper Forms Solution, Adobe Reader(R) Extensions Server, and Adobe Designer.

Document services for document control and security give organizations the power to control access to information, create audit trails of record usage, and certify document authenticity with digital signatures. The document control and security services delivered by Adobe LiveCycle enable more secure communications via electronic documents through powerful capabilities for authenticating who can access data in a document and determining what can be done with the data; verifying where the document came from; identifying what has been changed in the document; and tracking who has interacted with the document. Document services for document control and security delivered by Adobe LiveCycle include Adobe Document Security Server and Adobe Policy Server (Policy Server will be available in late 2004).

Adobe LiveCycle

Adobe LiveCycle software is built on a common server architecture based on Java 2 Enterprise Edition and XML, allowing for easy integration into enterprise infrastructures by providing Java APIs and support for Web services protocols. Adobe LiveCycle is optimized for IBM(R) WebSphere(R) and can be deployed on JBoss. Support is planned for BEA WebLogic for the first half of 2005. The servers run on IBM AIX(R) (optimized), Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Server, Red Hat(R) Linux(R), Sun(R) Solaris(R) and HP-UX. Support for the Novell(R) SUSE(R) LINUX platform is planned for the first half of 2005. Because Adobe LiveCycle supports industry standards such as XML and Web services, customers can deploy document services in today's Service Oriented Architectures (SOA).
