from DSSResources.comIceland Foods expands its Teradata® Warehouse™ to optimize decision-support capabilitiesDAYTON, Ohio, April 3, 2006 –- Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR), today announced that Iceland Foods, a leading United Kingdom-based food retailer, has engaged Teradata for a significant upgrade of its enterprise data warehouse environment. The retailer expects to increase the value of its operational, customer and financial information to the business while also reducing the total cost of ownership of its data warehousing and analytical infrastructure. Iceland Foods selected Teradata's enterprise data warehouse software and hardware package in preference to a data warehouse appliance-based proposition. The upgraded five-terabyte Teradata enterprise data warehouse will support key processes and associated users across the business, including merchandising, supply chain, finance and marketing. The enhancement will enable Iceland Foods to generate more business value from its existing analytical applications by both increasing the speed of delivery and extending the scope of information used in analytical calculations. It will also support and simplify the deployment of new analytical applications that can improve the company's ability to serve its customers. Teradata systems management software will automate many of the operational management activities, which is expected to lower the total cost of ownership through improved economies of scale. With this infrastructure upgrade, Iceland Foods has strengthened its business commitment to Teradata data warehousing and business intelligence technology for the next five years. As part of this commitment, Iceland Foods has engaged Teradata Professional Services for a business discovery project that will identify information-analysis-related business improvement projects that can be implemented over a five-year period. "The upgrade to the Teradata Warehouse is a key business initiative that will help give Iceland Foods the information and intelligence to better service its customers and streamline operations," said Mark Pearson, IT director at Iceland Foods. "Teradata not only demonstrated that its enterprise data warehousing vision and technology would deliver greater return on our investment than the competition, but that it could also work as a strategic consulting partner to the business, helping us to maximize the value of our investment." "We are very pleased that Iceland Foods has chosen to extend its relationship with Teradata and its investment in our technology. This commitment highlights both the strength of our data warehousing technology and also the skills and experience we can offer through our professional services business," said Chris Armitage, area vice president for Teradata in Ireland and the United Kingdom. "We look forward to working with Iceland Foods to derive greater intelligence from its information assets and consequently drive business improvement."
