Corona Direct deploys Teradata active data warehouse

European insurer enhances customer retention, improves bottom-line results

DAYTON, Ohio and BRUSSELS - Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR), announced today that Corona Direct, the major auto, fire and funeral services direct insurance provider in Belgium, has deployed an active data warehouse to provide operational intelligence for its telephone customer service representatives who assist approximately 2.5 million customers and prospects.

Until recently, data warehouses have traditionally been used for analysis of historical data to support long-range strategic planning. Corona Direct is now using Teradata's active data warehouse that delivers strategic analysis to the back-office decision-makers while supporting fresh, operational intelligence to the front-line users. It leverages data to deliver active enterprise intelligence for better, faster decision-making. This capability is based on the data warehouse's ability to offer fast user access, high-system availability, event monitoring, integration within the enterprise, and ease of system management.

"Corona Direct is innovating with Teradata's active data warehouse which helps customer service representatives to identify and quickly respond in near real time to customer needs," said Philippe Neyt, commercial director at Corona Direct. To interface with Teradata, Corona Direct developed an in-house Windows-based software application known as Integrated Customer Engine (ICE). Approximately 100 Corona Direct customer service representatives use ICE to access a customer's basic data and their history with the company from all departments such as billing, claims and risk analysis, including customer service. With a single, up-to-date view of the customer's activities, the customer service representatives are able to swiftly and efficiently react to questions and proactively make personalized offers for new insurance products and services at competitive rates.

Corona Direct has been working with a Teradata warehouse since 1999. Previously, the company used its data warehouse for monthly strategic analyses in the back office, such as customer segmentations and forecasts for direct marketing actions, which helps reduce the cost of its direct marketing campaigns by 30 percent.
