REDMOND, Wash., December 19, 2006 -- Noetix® Corp., a software provider that automatically generates business intelligence (BI) content from enterprise applications, announced today that Deseret Power, an energy utility serving a group of six rural electric cooperatives in Utah, is using Noetix to reduce BI report development time and empower end users to answer their own business questions. Deseret Power’s IT team estimates that Noetix saves them a total of 10 hours per day on report development.

Shortly after implementing Oracle E-Business Suite version 11i, Deseret Power’s four-person IT team discovered that end users were having challenges obtaining the customized reports they wanted from the Oracle database. The IT team ended up overburdened with the amount of time required to write the reports requested by the company’s 40 internal users. Three people within the IT team were dedicated to creating these reports on a full-time basis.

“We were struggling to get reports written for people and it was consuming so much of our time,” said Tami Nolte, senior programming specialist at Deseret Power. “Most challenging was preparing the data: finding the data and preparing it for the report. Oftentimes, we did not know where to go to within the Oracle database to obtain the data users had requested. So we were truly feeling the pain of constantly trying to obtain what the end users needed and not being able to fully deliver.”

After six months of working with Oracle, the Deseret IT team decided they needed to add a reporting tool that could provide a solution beyond what Oracle Discoverer offered them.

“The reason Noetix looked good to us was that there were already views created,” said Nolte. “The beauty of Noetix is that a person can run an ad hoc query and then convert it over to an Excel spreadsheet and still have it be complete with drill down information.”

With Noetix, the IT team has immediate access to hundreds of data views which greatly simplifies their ability to create reports and also saves them time. In addition, the team is teaching the end users to create their own reports using Noetix, and estimates that a quarter of the end users now rarely need IT support.

For example, many reports are developed to create a picture of the company’s inventory: numbers of items available, where items are located within the warehouse, the amount of time each item has been there, etc. Within the human resources department, reports are developed to provide intelligence on payroll and how employees are using benefits. In the financial department, employees are able to go from a general ledger summary report and drill down into details of each line item.
