Association for Information Systems SIG on Decision Support and Knowledge Management sponsors International Conference in Kolkata, IN Jan. 2-4, 2007

Kolkata, India, December 26, 2007 -- Computer technologies are changing how companies compete and how academics collaborate. University researchers have organized a conference to share research about "Decision Support for Global Enterprises". This topic is the theme of the 9th International Conference on Decision Support Systems (ICDSS 2007), which will be held in Kolkata, India, January 2-4, 2007. The venue for the conference is the campus of the Indian Institute of Management in Calcutta (IIM Calcutta).

The conference is organized by the Association for Information Systems Special Interest Group on Decision Support, Knowledge and Data Management Systems (SIGDSS). The General Co-Chairs of the conference are Ramesh Sharda, Oklahoma State University and Amitava Bagchi, Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta.

Professors Daniel J. Power, University of Northern Iowa, and Uday Kulkarni of Arizona State University are the Program Co-Chairs. Prof. Shashidar Kaparthi, University of Northern Iowa, is Conference Webmaster and Editor of the Electronic Proceedings, published at the conference website, www.icdss2007.org.

The purpose of ICDSS 2007 is to promote discussion and interaction among members of the information systems community with research interests in cutting-edge decision support systems. The emphasis is on emerging enterprise decision-making processes, increasing needs for making decisions and reasoning under uncertainty, new infrastructure for decision-making in organizations and society, the role of web technologies, and emerging theories and practices for knowledge management.

The final program includes 54 presentations, a keynote address by Stephen Brobst, Chief Technology Officer of NCR Teradata, a panel on "Decision Support for Public Sector Crisis Response Management in Developing Economies", and a workshop on data warehousing featuring Makrand Jadhav. He heads the North India operations of Teradata (a division of NCR Corporation). There will also be a special session on Wednesday afternoon, January 3, 2007 about the Teradata University Network (TUN) with Mary Gros and Dan Monahan, both of Teradata.

Stephen Brobst is the Chief Technology Officer for NCR's Teradata Division. His expertise is in the identification and development of opportunities for the strategic use of technology in competitive business environments. Over the past sixteen years Stephen has been involved in numerous engagements in which he has been called upon to apply his combined expertise in business strategy and high-end parallel systems to develop frameworks for data warehousing and data mining to leverage information for strategic advantage. Clients with whom he has worked include leaders such as Office Depot, Fidelity Investments, General Motors, Wells Fargo Bank, Wal*Mart, SBC Communications, and many more.

Researchers from both industry and universities will participate in the three-day conference. Participants from more than 60 universities are expected including professors from New York University, Tel Aviv University, Texas A & M, University of Cape Town, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), University of Colorado at Denver, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State (Nigeria), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Administrative Staff College (Hyderabad, India).
